Job Description
We are looking for a Sr Store Designer Lead Luxury Beauty for a top beauty company in New York City! The role is hybrid - 3 days a week onsite and 2 remote in NYC office. We are looking for a strong designer from a technical and creative standpoint. Having some visual merchandising skills is a plus.
- Hourly pay rate is based on experience and role is 5 days a week for at least 6-8 months covering a maternity leave. Looking to bring someone onboard ASAP if possible.
- Focus is on design within the luxury beauty sector. Technical drawings, millwork, layouts, must work in AutoCAD and Sketchup or Rhino.
- Covering a maternity leave until March 2025 for now
Responsibilities:Concept Design & Development- Oversee and manage all aspects of store design projects (new store openings, renovations, and in-store fixture development) including concept design, project management and implementation and roll-out
- Adapt global design concepts to create test layouts and design proposals for retail opportunities at US specific retail channels for department store counters and in-store fixtures
- Prepare project briefs, design intent documents, schematic design drawings, floor plan, elevations, and 3D renderings for global HQ, US cross-functional partners and retailer approvals
- Coordinate all store design initiatives with Visual Merchandising, Marketing and Sales in a timely manner to gain alignment
- Gather and manage feedback on design initiatives from all key stakeholders and cross-functional partners and adjust concept design accordingly
Project Management- Ability to multi-task, manage and execute several projects in a timely and efficient manner from concept to execution
- Ensure highest level of excellence in creative and executional phases of work, including key business drivers such as budgets, timelines, and quality control
- Create design proposal presentations for internal reviews, HQ and retailer approvals, and vendor briefs.
- Create and manage project budgets based on approved CapEx, project schedules/timelines, and presentations
- Create new and develop existing standards and templates to facilitate project roll outs
- Manage external consultant and vendor communication, including creating agendas and minutes
- Review consultant / vendor proposals, technical and production shop drawings to ensure compliance with design intent and approved budgets
- Recommend design solutions and value engineering options to ensure projects adhere to approved budgets
- Attend critical offsite meetings with production vendors to review prototypes and fixture development
- Oversee new store installations & renovations on site
- Coordinate with Visual Merchandising to schedule and oversee new store opening photoshoots
- Partner with production vendors and Visual Merchandising after installation to create punch list
Working Relationships/Key Stakeholders:- This position reports into the Director, US Store Design
- Opportunities to manage supporting team members (externals and/or internal)
- Act as a key partner to the US VM and brand marketing teams to stay abreast of all VMSD initiatives
- Partner closely with internal brand marketing, sales, and finance on all store design CapEx projects
- Liaise with HQ/Global VMSD teams for design alignment and approvals
- Work closely with retail partners, display and fixture vendors, and multiple internal brand teams
- Develop and maintain effective and positive relationships with internal peers and outside consultants and vendors\
Required Qualifications:- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in luxury beauty or fashion industry with an understanding of the industry’s fast and unique pace and deadlines
- Architecture / Interior Design / Industrial design degree with proven design, production, and construction-related experience
- Required: High proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
- Strong project management skills with an understanding of budgets and schedules/timelines
- Highly organized with an uncompromising attention to detail
- Must be hands-on and able to manage and execute projects independently from start to finish with an uncompromising attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a willingness and ability to be agile and resourceful under tight deadlines
- Must be able to balance design, innovation, and creativity with commercial and business needs
- Knowledgeable in working with high-quality materials, finishes, furniture & fixtures to maintain the luxury image of the brands
- Must be passionate, results-driven and a strategic-thinker with a self-starter spirit
- Maintain a collaborative, energetic and positive attitude and inspire creativity amongst peers
- Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to build effective cross-functional partnerships
